Kitesurfing in Fuerteventura - tips from local Angelina

Kite babe and Wave Shaker Angelina visited the island for the first time Fuerteventura two years ago. Not much later, she decided to move here permanently. Why? Because it's perfect for kitesurfing.

"I am in love with this island: the weather, the wind, the people, the island life..."

When is the best time to go to Fuerteventura?

From June to August the wind is the strongest. It's sometimes so strong that I have to take out a 6 or even 5 meter kite. It can be from 20 up to 40 knots.

In the other months it is not that strong, but still fine for kitesurfing. Furthermore, it is less crowded than in the summer months. 😉  There's actually wind all year round on Fuerteventura. Most of the times I ride my 8 or 10 meter kite.

What to pack?

In summer you can go out in a shorty, or sometimes even in bikini if the wind is not too strong. In the winter you need a long wetsuit.

Fuerteventura's hot spots

Sotavento Beach

This is my favourite spot for kitesurfing. Depending on the tide, there is a lagoon with a lot of shallow water. And of course there's the wonderful Atlantic Ocean.

  • Pizzeria La Italiano
  • Ice House

Where to stay

For a nice holiday the Melia Hotel is a very good option. The Hotel is located directly at the kitesurf spot and next to the kitesurf school Rene Egli.

¿Hablas Español?

You can just speak English here. It may be nice to know how to say hello in Spanish (which is "hola", haha).

Beach please

10 beaches on Fuerteventura have been awarded the blue flag. The islanders are very environmentally conscious. Furthermore, Fuerteventura has the second most beautiful beach of Europe: Playa de Cofete. The volcanic landscape is simply wonderful.

Some final words

Are you thinking of taking the step to live abroad? The most important thing is to never give up and always to believe in yourself. The most important, and at the same time the hardest, thing is to take that first step. You can do it!
